Where It All Began.

I love symbolism. It is the reason one of my passions and my first career has been teaching English. And I have recently realized it is also probably one of the reasons I love weddings so much. Weddings are full of symbolism--from the white dress, to the rings, to the tradition of feeding each other wedding cake. In fact, the ceremony itself is a symbol. It is the ultimate symbol of a couple's love for and commitment to each other. You stand in front of one another, you look into the person you love's eyes, and you vow to choose to love him or her every day for the rest of your life. What a truly beautiful thing.

Honestly, just thinking about it and writing this post gives me that little lump you get in the back of your throat when you get all emotional and are about to cry. Full disclosure, I recently had a baby, so almost anything can bring about that reaction in me now, but I promise, love and weddings made me tear up even before my body was overtaken by hormones that still seem to have a hold on me, even five months later.

Even when I was young, the two things I enjoyed most were reading and weddings. My mom always put Martha Stewart Weddings magazines in my Christmas stockings and Easter baskets. Those magazines and a pad of sticky notes were the original Pinterest for me, and when I got engaged in 2012, I went to a box in my attic and pulled out those magazines and pored over them for inspiration.

I had so much fun planning my wedding. I won't lie to you and pretend it was all easy and--forgive the cliche and cheesy, ironically appropriate reference--a piece of cake. It was stressful, and just as every other bride does, I felt anxiety over certain elements. We were on a tight budget, so we DIYed a lot of things, hunted for bargains on the decor, and were very selective about our vendors. But even through the stress, I enjoyed the challenge, and I knew that not only was I planning the wedding that was perfect for me and my fiance, but I was practicing for the new career I wanted.

I learned quite a bit about planning a wedding. Most importantly, I learned that I have a talent for bringing ideas to life and that I really enjoy doing it. I was so honored and proud when our wedding was featured on Style me Pretty's Little Black Book Blog. I couldn't believe that people would be looking at my wedding for inspiration and ideas the way I looked at wedding magazines as a young girl. Now I want to help other brides and grooms have their perfect weddings. I have so many ideas and so much passion and excitement for my growing business, and I can't wait to share all of that with new couples!
