A Cozy Holiday Tradition.
We were so thrilled to have our holiday shoot with Radhika and Ian from Radian Photography featured on Belle Lumiere's journal recently! After working with Radhika and Ian on a couple other things, we talked to them about taking some pictures of our little family for our Christmas cards because we have become enamored with film photography, and Radhika and Ian's work is stunning. Radhika suggested we pull in some other amazing vendors and make it a little styled shoot, and you know we at Plume love a good styled shoot, so of course we said yes!
We wanted to look to be true to Plume and Radian's styles, as well as our family's style, since the images would be used on our Christmas cards. We also wanted to do something a little different that the tradition green and red, so we chose a neutral palate of whites, ivories, and tans and mixed in touches of brass and a beautiful rust color. Of course we also used greenery, but we mixed eucalyptus in with the various types of cedar, evergreens, and magnolia leaves to again give it a more modern feel.
The Bradford provided the perfect backdrop for the shoot with its balance between sophistication and a "homey" look. We set up a cozy little space in front of the fireplace with fur rugs, warm blankets, and fluffy pillows for a good snuggle sesh. Wink Hair & Makeup made mom stunning with a warm makeup look and soft curls that were later plaited in a long braid. Sugar Euphoria made some yummy macaroons and brownie treats to set up with our champagne toast, and Alley & Co. created a holiday stationary suite, customized ornaments, and a "Merry and Bright" banner that elevated the style and brought everything together. Radhika even created a beautiful woven wall hanging that incorporated the shoot's colors and cozy feel.
Here's what I wrote about the shoot for the feature:
"It seems as though our hectic lives become even busier around the holidays. We have shopping lists to check off, events to attend, and gifts to wrap. It is easy to get swept up in this whirlwind, as the days in December fly by. But it is during the holidays that we should take time for our families and for our relationships. That is why Thomas and I agreed that in our first few years of marriage we would begin what we hoped would become traditions that were centered around each other and our family. Most importantly, every year, we make sure to set aside some time in our busy holiday schedules—a weekend or even just an afternoon–-to simply be together. This year, our time was spent in each other’s arms in front of the fireplace and its fresh winter greens, with a glass of champagne in our hands. We surrounded ourselves with cozy fur rugs, wool blankets, and plush pillows. We talked and laughed about the year behind us and dreamed about the year ahead. We spent time with the most important person in our lives, our son, Graham. We toasted our many blessings, especially the blessings of Christmas and our love for one another."
A little about our outfits: My cape, gray peep-toe booties, and floppy wool hat came from ASOS. The ruffle-shouldered blouse was from H&M. Thomas' green sweater and boots, as well as Graham's boots came from Old Navy. Graham's jeans were from GAP, and his white long-sleeve shirt was from Zara.
